„Jacques Perret’s Influence on Defensive Polish Architecture in the 17th Century”, PAN/PASIFIC 1, no. PAN.BFB.S.BDN.634.022.2021, 2022–2024; funded: 661 424,90 PLN, leader: Dr Olha Tikhonova. The project aims to show the influence of the French architect Jacques Perret on Polish architecture, namely bastion castles. No authors have been studied Perret’s influence in Poland yet, although such influence should exist because of three following evidences. First, the most influential Polish treatise on defensive architecture done by Józef Naronowicz-Naronski has evidential similarities with the models in the treaty of Jacques Perret. Second, Perret’s exceptional models have enormous visual similarities with at least two built examples of bastion castles in former Polish lands, namely Pidhirtsi and Zbarazh bastion castles. Third, and not less interesting, is the copy of Perret’s treaty in the library of architect Jan Wolff who was working in Zbarazh, in the region where two similar to Perret’s models of bastion castles were built, and their designer is unknown until nowadays. This fact can say about the possibility that their authorship belongs to architect Wolff. This possibility has not been ever discussed before. The influence of Perret’s work on Naronowicz-Naronski’s design ideas and similarities with at least two built examples, possibly through the architect Wolff inspired by Perret’s treatise, will be the main point of this study. It is essential to develop this research to raise the power of unknown French architect among Polish and Ukrainian researchers, who sites just two reference examples of bastion castles on former Polish lands: a project for Zbarazh-style bastion castle in Galicia described in Vincenzo Scamozzi’s treatise “L’Idea della Architettura Universale” and Italian villa Caprarola.

„Słownik dziennikarzy, wydawców i drukarzy emigracyjnych i polonijnych w l. 1865–1918. Oprac. wstępne” (a project of the Ministry of Education and Science under the program „Science for the Society”), no. NdS/543038/2021/2022; funded: 800 000 PLN, 2022–2024, leader: Dr Elżbieta Nowosielska. After the completion of the first stage of work, planned for two years, the full list of names that will be included in the Dictionary will be drawn up, as well as the biograms of those people for whom the Section for the Retrospective Bibliography for the 19th and 20th Centuries collected materials during work on the Bibliography of Polish History of the 19th and 20th centuries. „Map for the Nation. Digital Edition of the Charter of Former Poland (Karta Dawnej Polski) by Wojciech Chrzanowski” (a project of the Ministry of Education and Science under the program „Science for the Society”), no. NdS/543210/2021/2022; funded: 800 000 PLN, 2022–2024, leader: Dr Tomasz Panecki. The project involves the development of a digital edition of the “Charter of Former Poland” elaborated by General Wojciech Chrzanowski published in Paris in 1859 at a scale of 1:300,000. The project has three objectives. First, the map image and its contents (towns, economic objects, roads, other toponyms) will be made available as a digital edition via a web application. The edition will be presented on the AtlasFontium website (https://atlasfontium.pl/). Second, as part of the source and editorial commentary, the map will be characterized as a cartographic and historical source, and the methodology for preparing the edition will be explained. The first part will be devoted to source-related aspects. It will be important to familiarize the audience with the social context in which Chrzanowski’s map was created in order to show under what conditions cartographers of the time worked and how their initiatives served society. The second part will discuss the methodology of preparing the digital edition. Thirdly, we will organize online workshops for teachers, employees of cultural heritage institutions (museums, libraries, cultural centers), members of associations involved in the popularization of knowledge about the history of the region (“small homeland”), and for employees of archives. Following employees of the Department of Historical Atlas are involved in the project: Tomasz Panecki (principal investigator), Anna Barcz, Wiesława Duży, Michal Gochna and Aniela Wrzesińska.
