Institute of History Tadeusz Manteuffel of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw announces a competition[1] for the position of adjunct – postdoctoral trainee (post-doc) – contractor of the research project entitled “Religion, Rationalism and Enlightenment: exploring documents on Polish-Dutch connections”, commissioned by the National Science Center (project no. 2023/49/B/HS1/02719) under the supervision of Dr. Jan H. Waszink.
The tasks of the trainee will include:
- searching for source documents on the Socinians in archives in Poland, the Netherlands, Germany (and elsewhere if necessary);
- transcribing and translating source documents on the Socinians;
- collecting the existing editions of Socinian texts in 19th- and 20th century scholarship and digitising them
- writing and publishing articles on topics connected with the project;
- presenting papers at conferences;
- assisting the project leader in the management of the project, building a project website, publishing of the results and other tasks;
- assiting the project leader with the composition of a future research grant application on the role of religious minorities in the Enlightenment.
DESCRIPTION: The candidate should:
- have a doctoral degree in humanities in the history of culture or intellectual history, or the history of religion from the early modern era;
- have research experience and scientific achievements in the field of early-modern intellectual history confirmed by one or more publications, preferably on the intellectual history of Socinianism;
- have demonstrable experience in making textual editions (experience editing Socinian texts is an advantage);
- have fluent knowledge of spoken and written English and Latin;
- have proven experience in teamwork;
- have proven experience in managing research projects;
- declare consent to be included in the number of employees conducting research activity during the employment period, i.e. in the number N for the purposes of the algorithm for allocating the base subsidy to statutory activity.
Employment: after signing the IH PAN – NCN grant agreement (probably from 01/02/2024) for a period of 2 years, full-time. Detailed terms of employment (in line with the recommendations of the National Science Center) will be specified in the employment contract for a closed period, concluded between the adjunct-trainee and the Director of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

- A copy of the doctoral diploma;
- Information on scientific achievements with a bibliography;
- Sample of one publication by the candidate in English;
- Candidate’s declaration that in the event of winning the competition, IH PAN will be the primary place of work;
