Conference “Dear Polish independence” –
organized under the grant
“Polish independence movement in the first half of the nineteenth century”

 

Institute of History, in collaboration with the University of Jan Kochanowski, Holy Cross Province Marshal’s Office and the National Museum in Kielce held 15-17 fourth year. international conference Fri “Dear Polish independence from self-education circles for combat. The 150 anniversary of the January Uprising. ” The meeting took place in Warsaw and Kielce. The meeting was attended by historians from Polish (Warsaw, Gdańsk, Kielce, Krakow, Lublin, Lodz, Olsztyn, Torun, Wroclaw), Belarus (Grodno), Lithuania (Vilnius) and Russia (Barnaul, Ekaterinburg, Krasnodar, Moscow, Omsk, Pyatigorsk ). Conference was an opportunity to show the different aspects of the Polish struggle for independence in the nineteenth century, especially in the Russian zone, giving not only an overview of new issues the researchers, but also new interpretations and verification of certain findings. Presentations focused mainly on a few issues: business conspiracy and Russian policy in the times of the Polish Kingdom, attitudes and strategies of Poles against the invaders, evaluation Aleksander Wielkopolski, the situation of Polish political exiles in Siberia and the Caucasus and the work of the independence of emigration. Much attention was paid to the January Uprising – conspiracy, armed struggle, repression, and the functioning of tradition and myth of the 1863 uprising in the Polish political thought and historical reflection. The conference demonstrated the need and importance of cooperation between Polish researchers with historians from Russia, Lithuania and Belarus.
